The North Atlantic Alliance has no plans to deploy offensive weapons in Ukraine. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg spoke about this at a press conference on Wednesday as part of a meeting of NATO defense ministers. He is quoted by TASS.

“We are not going to deploy offensive systems in Ukraine,” the Secretary General assessed the likelihood of installing such types of weapons in Ukraine. He also noted that the North Atlantic Alliance performs defensive functions for the participating countries.

Earlier, the head of the Russian delegation at the talks in Vienna on military security and arms control, Konstantin Gavrilov, was worried that NATO was drawing neutral countries into its orbit through military exercises.

On February 16, The Washington Post wrote that Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to scare NATO from interfering in a Russian-Ukrainian war if one starts. The author of the article saw in Russia's military maneuvers on the border with Ukraine Putin's attempt to create a threat to the West.
