Peter Stöger
Peter Stöger missed the first big goal of the season with Ferencvaros Budapest. The Hungarians failed in the play-off for the Champions League qualification.
As in the first leg, there was a 2: 3 bankruptcy against Young Boys Bern in the domestic Ferencvaros stadium on Tuesday. The Swiss champions made it into the “premier class” with a total score of 6: 4, the green-whites from Budapest had too many defensive mistakes to fate.
“We made mistakes that were too simple in the two games, and in the end it will be punished. We made the mistakes in the crucial phases that you are not allowed to make at this level,” the former Austria coach shook his head.
“In the end, the somewhat more mature, clever team progressed. The goals conceded were too easy. We then needed so much effort to correct that,” said the Viennese, who saw a game “at eye level”.
“I am still not dissatisfied,” added the Viennese-born. “My team showed character, it was a great football game. Even when we were one of a few, we tried everything. But we showed that we can prevail against champions from other leagues, that we can come back here. It's a question the mentality, in the decisive phases we were missing one thing or the other, but I'm proud of my team, “concluded the 55-year-old.
Ferencvaros is now moving to the group stage of the Europa League.
