Nicole Wesner
Hard fight for Nicole Wesner! The boxing world champion and dancing star finalist wants to return to the boxing ring with stem cell therapy.
Because the Viennese by choice has not stood there for a long time. On July 6, 2019, she broke her right metacarpal bone in her successful World Cup fight. The hand was reattached in the hospital with 10 screws and a plate. On the way back, the corona crisis came first – and then the next low blow: plates and screws restricted the mobility of the index finger, and a small piece of cartilage was missing on the index finger knuckle. The already scheduled comeback fight had to be canceled at short notice.
But Wesner doesn't think about giving up. “I want to box for many years to come and I looked for a long time until I found a solution,” she says “Today”. The solution: a stem cell therapy. In the Cartilage Center Vienna with Prof. Dr. Stefan Marlovits will be taken from her body's own stem cells from the adipose tissue on Tuesday. “They have the ability to restore and regenerate destroyed or used tissue such as bones, cartilage, ligaments, tendons and intervertebral discs,” explains Wesner.
In the same procedure, the plate and screws are removed from Wesner's hand. “If everything goes according to plan, my hand will soon be as good as new and I can box again in about three months,” she hopes for an early comeback. She advises athletes with similar injury problems: “Modern medicine is now ready. When you have a problem, there is usually a doctor somewhere who has a solution. You just have to persevere and look for the solution.”
