Valve, the owner of the digital game store Steam, has been sued. The plaintiff is not satisfied with the 30% developer store commissions and the platform's anti-competitive practices. Overall, the problem is that Steam remains the most popular service on the market.
The plaintiff is the company that created the Humble Bundle store. She believes that Valve is abusing its market position, so publishers have no choice and are forced to sell most of their games through Steam. At the same time, they give Valve 30% of their earnings.
The plaintiff claims that Gabe Newell's company controls approximately 75% of the PC gaming market. The following are cited as evidence of monopoly:
no other company has yet been able to compete with Steam, although it offered lower commissions; Steam does not allow publishers to sell games and keys for less money elsewhere.
The Humble Bundle has been called a victim of Valve's practice. It is noted that publishers are reluctant to participate in the store's activities.
