A Russian smashed busts of Soviet leaders with a sledgehammer.
In the town of Zvenigorod near Moscow, an unknown man used a sledgehammer to damage monuments to two Soviet leaders – Joseph Stalin and Vladimir Lenin.
The incident, captured on video by eyewitnesses, occurred in a park on Sovetskaya Street on the afternoon of July 20.
The published footage shows a man in a checkered shirt hitting the monument with a sledgehammer, after which something falls to the ground.
As evidenced by photos published on social networks, as a result of “decommunization,” the bust of Stalin’s head was completely blown off, and Lenin’s chin was damaged.
The next day The 43-year-old man was identified and turned out to be a local resident. Russian security forces opened a case of vandalism against him. The motives for his action are not reported.
According to local Telegram channels, the bust of Joseph Stalin was installed in the park on the initiative of a public group, without the appropriate permission. In March 2024, on the 71st anniversary of the death of the bloody Soviet leader, his bust was doused with paint, and the letter “t” on the pedestal was corrected to “r”. A bust of Lenin was also installed illegally in the park.
Let us recall that in the Tver region of the Russian Federation on the territory of the Mednoye memorial complex, which is dedicated to the memory of victims of political repression and where, in particular, they are buried Polish prisoners of war were shot in 1939, a bust of Stalin appeared. The memorial director called it logical.
