The collapsed stadium roof
Shocking moment at a fourth division game in Brazil! A severe storm caused the stadium roof to collapse.
In the Brazilian fourth division Imperatiz and 4 de Julho faced each other when a heavy storm with heavy rain and strong gusts of wind came up. The match was canceled in the 76th minute when the score was 0-0. About two thirds of the grandstand construction could not withstand the severe weather conditions and crashed into the spectator stands.
However, there were no injuries in the incident. The reason: Because of the corona pandemic, the game took place without fans. Fortunately, the part of the grandstand where the sports reporters were accommodated did not collapse. The people on the substitute benches were also able to get to safety in good time before meter-sized metal slabs fell down.
“Nobody was injured, everyone is fine,” said the club in a broadcast. “The stadium has been cordoned off. We have already contacted the association to analyze the possibility of the game continuing or abandoning it.”
