Vaccination with the drug developed at the Gamaleya Center does not have a negative effect on the male reproductive system, the press service of the National Medical Research Center of Endocrinology of the Ministry of Health of Russia told RBC.

“Sputnik V vaccination had no effect on total testosterone levels and sperm quality indicators,” says an article published in the scientific journal “Problems of Reproduction” based on a study by a group of scientists from the National Medical Research Center of Endocrinology.

The study, which was conducted from March to June, involved 60 men. The research results were published in an article in the scientific journal “Problems of Reproduction”, which is included in the international databases Scopus, Web of Science.

In March, the Ministry of Health reported that there is no scientific evidence of the effect of Sputnik V injections on male and female reproductive function. The Gamaleya Center itself, which developed the vaccine, said that the vaccine affects both men and women equally.

Yandex.Q and specialists from the RANEPA and the Center for Interdisciplinary Human Potential Research (NTSMU) in a joint study found that rumors about the dangers of vaccines have become the most popular topics of misinformation about the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic. 39% of fake posts were about the harm of vaccines, in particular, the fact that vaccination can lead to infertility.

In response, on June 19, Gunzburg announced that Sputnik V could not cause infertility. Both components of the vaccine are made on the basis of adenovirus 26 and adenovirus 5, which appeared in the human population a very long time ago and with which people “have become infected dozens of times in the form of lungs in varying degrees of acute respiratory infections,” he explained.
