Spotify is finally leaving the Russian market

Previously, users from the Russian Federation could use the free version of the application.

Music streaming service Spotify will cease to provide services from April in Russia.

This was reported by representatives of the company to Expressen.

The company made such a decision due to the fact that new laws have been introduced in the Russian Federation that impose restrictions on the dissemination of information within the country .

“Unfortunately, recent legislation imposes additional restrictions on access to information, eliminates freedom of expression and criminalizes certain types of news. This threatens the safety of our employees and, possibly, our listeners. We have made a difficult decision completely stop its activities in Russia,” the message says.

Remind them, previously users from the Russian Federation could use the free version of Spotify. Thus, the service tried to give Russians access to independent sources of information.

“Spotify considered it important to try to keep our service available in Russia in order to provide reliable and independent news and information sources in the region,” the service representatives noted.
