Iker Lecuona
In the first training session, Johann Zarco shows a new Spielberg course record. KTM strikes surprisingly in the second session.
Iker Lecuona sets the fastest time on his KTM in the second practice session for the Austrian Grand Prix. The first place of the Tech 3 pilot is only partially meaningful. The training was marked by the heavy rain. Only the Spaniard manages a fast lap on dry tires.
He is more than three seconds behind Johann Zarco, even though the Ducati star had set the new course record in Spielberg just a few hours earlier. Ducati colleague Jack Miller is third.
For the KTM factory riders, things are not going according to plan this weekend either. Last year's winner, Miguel Oliveira, was 15th in the early afternoon and was the best. His colleague Brad Binder is now tenth in the second session.
How it continues: On Saturday, the third practice starts at 9:55 a.m., before things get serious at 1:30 p.m. with the fourth practice and the subsequent qualifying.
