At least 13 members of the Spanish Civil Guard were injured in stopping an attempt to break through the Spanish-Moroccan border by illegal migrants from Africa. This was reported by the Europa Press agency with reference to the Spanish government.
According to information from Madrid, about 500 illegal immigrants tried to penetrate from Morocco to Spain in the area of the Spanish port city of Melilla in North Africa. The onslaught of migrants to the Spanish law enforcement officers was helped to stop the Moroccan colleagues. During the breakthrough, illegal immigrants used stones and sticks.
The Spanish government said it had to use “the best forces” with the support of a police helicopter in the operation to curb illegal entry into Spanish territory. It also became known that African illegal immigrants resorted to “extreme forms of violence” during clashes with Spanish and Moroccan law enforcement officers.
Earlier, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Siyarto announced the failure of the migration policy of the European Union. According to him, the association was unable to ensure the integration of migrants into the Western European community. In his opinion, Brussels should transfer the issues of control over migration from the institutions of the European Union to the governments of its member countries.
