Spaceship “Buran” will be returned to Russia from Kazakhstan
The Molniya Research and Production Association, which developed the Buran reusable spacecraft, announced its decision to transport the second flight ship from the Baikonur cosmodrome to Russia.
“Representatives of the NGO Molniya visited the Baikonur cosmodrome. The purpose of the trip was to inspect the Buran orbital ship and its technological layout, as well as the hangar where the products are stored, in order to resolve issues of subsequent transportation of the orbital ship to the territory of our country, ”the release on the company's website says.
During a meeting with representatives of Roskosmos, the Center for the Operation of Ground-Based Space Infrastructure Facilities and an unnamed transport company, the possibility of moving the Buran and its model out of the hangar without damage and serious dismantling of the facilities was discussed. As a result, the specialists came to the conclusion that the disassembly, transportation and assembly of the ship and the model should be carried out under the supervision of NPO Molniya.
It should be noted that in the spring the media reported that the inscriptions “Good”, “Yura, we have arrived”, “Before flying to the stars, a person needs to learn how to live on Earth” appeared on the ship stored in Baikonur. After that, Roskosmos said that Moscow would raise the issue of preserving facilities at Baikonur at the next meeting of the bilateral intergovernmental commission. The state corporation promised to take “Buran” under protection.
Let us recall that the first flight ship “Buran”, which made a single flight in 1988, was destroyed after a roof collapse in the assembly and test building at Baikonur in 2002. The second and last of the completed ships, along with the model of the ship, is also located at Baikonur and is the subject of legal proceedings.
