Space debris flew near the ISS

The space debris object flew near the International Space Station on Thursday, July 8, at about 16:15 Moscow time.

Space debris passed from the station at a distance of 1.8 kilometers. Since the probability of a collision with the ISS was zero, there was no need for an evasive maneuver, Roscosmos said on Twitter.

As the website kp.ru wrote, an unidentified space object is approaching the ISS and will get as close as possible to the station on Thursday, July 8. According to the American side, the approach of the station with the space object “UNKNOWN” was supposed to occur at about 16:16, and the minimum distance to which the object could approach was 4.8 kilometers.

Recall that Roskosmos intends to build another space debris detection station. The object will appear in South Africa and will be able to detect spacecraft and space debris in low, medium and high Earth orbits.
