South Korean President Moon Jae-in said that the Nuri rocket was unable to launch a 1.5-ton satellite mockup into orbit. At the same time, he noted that the launch of the rocket itself is an achievement. This was reported by the Ryonghap agency.
“It is important that we managed to lift the rocket into space by 700 km and the space became closer. But launching a satellite mock-up into orbit remained an unresolved task, ”said Moon Jae In.
According to Ryonghap, this “dealt a blow to the country's ten-year project to join the elite global space club.” According to the president, another launch is planned for next year.
The first carrier rocket “Nuri” (KSLV-II) produced by the republic, which has been developed since 2010, was launched into space today, October 21. It was reported to have successfully entered orbit and separated the payload mockup. This makes South Korea the seventh country in the world to launch a fully self-produced rocket.
