Seoul declares serious danger.
North Korea is participating in Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Pyongyang has sent 12,000 troops to the war. In particular, a special forces unit.
This was stated by South Korean intelligence during a security meeting, Reuters reports.
South Korean President Yoon Seok-yol held an unscheduled security meeting with key intelligence, military and national security officials. Seoul believes that sending North Korean troops to Russia means a serious threat to the security of the international community. The country is ready to respond to this “by all available means.”
“The participants shared the opinion that the current situation, where closer ties between Russia and North Korea have gone beyond the movement of military supplies and the actual dispatch of troops, poses a serious security threat not only to our country but also to the international community,” the statement said.
The South Korean presidential office said that they and their allies have been closely monitoring the dispatch of North Korean troops to Russia since the initial stages. However, it did not provide any intelligence information to confirm the deployment of troops or their participation in the fighting.
Yonhap, citing its own sources, reported that North Korea has decided to deploy four brigades, including a special forces unit. What's more, the movement of troops has already begun.
Recall that the head of the GUR, Kirill Budanov, stated that up to 11,000 troops from the DPRK are preparing to enter the Russian Federation's war against Ukraine. According to him, these soldiers will be ready to fight in Ukraine as early as November 1.
