South Korea is trying to fight porn deepfakes.
South Korean police have launched an investigation into the Telegram platform due to suspicions of its involvement in sexual crimes.
This was reported by Yonhap.
National Investigation Bureau Director Woo Jong-soo said the investigation includes checking whether Telegram is complicit in the spread of deepfakes. Investigators are facing difficulties because Telegram does not provide account information.
Last week, 88 reports of sexual crimes involving deepfakes were received, and 24 suspects were identified. The investigation also includes a review of automated deepfake software and the group chats that distribute the content.
Recall that a court in France has banned Telegram founder Pavel Durov from leaving the country, accusing him of a number of crimes and setting bail at five million euros.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the detention of Telegram founder Pavel Durov by France would not affect the functioning of Telegram in Ukraine.
