South Korea approves AstraZeneca vaccine

The South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has approved the vaccine for AstraZeneca, according to the organization's website.

AstraZeneca applied for vaccine registration in Korea on January 4, 2021, providing the regulator with results from clinical trials in other countries – the UK and Brazil. The use of the vaccine is allowed for citizens over 18 years of age.

AstroZeneca has also awarded a vaccine manufacturing contract with SC Bioscience Korea.

The European Commission approved the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine in the countries of the Union on January 29, after a positive verdict by the European Medicines Agency.

At the same time, a group of experts from the German Robert Koch Institute did not recommend using the drug for people over 65, citing the lack of data on its effectiveness for people in this age group.

According to the national headquarters for combating coronavirus, as of February 10, 81,930 cases of the disease were recorded in Korea, 444 people were infected in the last day. 8,218 people continue to remain in quarantine, 72,226 people have been discharged. 31% of all cases are registered in the capital of the country.
