Deputy Minister of State Security of South Africa Zizi Kodwa said that the organizers of the riots in the country planned to overthrow the current government.
“The plan was to overthrow the current government of South Africa through radical action and agitation,” the local news service EWN quoted Kodwa as saying.
It is also reported that the country's authorities have a list of all the organizers of the riots. Among them is the daughter of the former South African President Jacob Zuma, who is in prison, Duduzilu.
On July 8, 2021, supporters of the imprisoned ex-head of state Jacob Zuma began to organize riots. The protesters announced the start of the “Free Zoom” campaign to achieve the soonest release of the politician, and called on local residents to take part in protests. The deaths of 11 people were reported in a stampede following the looting of a shopping center in the suburbs of Johannesburg (Gauteng province).
