Sony not only sells its smartphones, but also supplies image sensors to other manufacturers. As it turned out, the gradual withdrawal from the market of the client of the Japanese company – Huawei – hit it hard.
According to media reports, Sony's supplies to Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo were not enough. In addition, competition from Samsung in the image sensor market is now growing. The president of Sony's semiconductor division has already admitted that the company will not be able to increase profits for the 2021 fiscal year. Thus, Sony's operating profit will decline for the second consecutive year.
Reporters clarify that in the first quarter of 2021, Huawei's global share of the global smartphone market decreased by 14% and now is only 4%.
