A general meeting of Sony shareholders was held the day before. On it, the head of the company, Kenichiro Yoshida, made an extremely strange statement regarding the PlayStation 5.
According to the head, the Japanese IT giant plans to sell more than 22.6 million new generation game consoles from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023, writes Videogameschronicle. If it does happen this way, then two significant events will happen.
First, Sony will set a new absolute record for console shipments – the previous one was set in the distant 1998 financial year. It was then that the original PlayStation managed to sell exactly 22.6 million units.
Secondly, the company will finally be able to cope with the deficit that is being observed right now. That is, if Sony wants to sell more than 20 million PlayStation 5, it needs to put on the shelves more than 20 million PlayStation 5. And such indicators are extremely difficult to call “scarce”.
Recall that almost from the very moment of the release of the new console, buyers could not purchase it. All because of the insufficient production capacity of the company, which could not fully meet the demand.
