US National Guard soldiers stationed in the Capitol in Washington, DC, complained about the quality of the food provided to them: they found undercooked or raw meat, mold and even metal shavings. This was announced by the congressmen of the state of Michigan, reports CNN.
Fourteen politicians signed a collective appeal to improve the quality of food for the military. It says that as a result of the unfair work of the contractors who provided the National Guard, several people were hospitalized.
The National Guard called this information false. In response to a CNN inquiry, it said that undercooked food was delivered to soldiers guarding government buildings across the country in less than 0.01 percent of all cases – and only since January 7, when soldiers were sent to guard the state capitols, over 1.2 million servings. At the same time, the first complaint about raw chicken was filed only last week.
The spokesman for the National Guard added that each soldier also has a dry ration, which he can use if he is dissatisfied with the quality of the food.
Before the inauguration of US President-elect Joe Biden, the FBI checked all 25,000 National Guard fighters who were supposed to guard Washington during the event. The check was driven by fears by the authorities that some of those tasked with protecting the American capital may themselves pose a threat to the future president and other dignitaries.
On January 7, the US Congress approved Biden's victory in the presidential election. This was preceded by riots and the storming of the Capitol by Trump supporters, during which five people died. After that, the soldiers of the National Guard were sent to all the capitols of the country.
