World Cup: Lech is targeting 3,000 visitors, Kitzbühel is still waiting.

Sölden is planning the upcoming World Cup opener on 23/24. October with at least 5,000 spectators. According to the current regulation, a full house would be possible at the Tyrolean glacier ski event despite the ongoing pandemic, but initially conservative approaches are taken when selling tickets. Apparently 3,000 visitors are planned for the parallel competition in Lech / Zürs in mid-November, Kitzbühel is still thinking about it.

After no spectators were admitted to World Cup races in Austria last winter due to Corona, the organizers can now plan with fans again. “As of today, we have no distance rules and no viewer limits, we only have 3G and contact tracing to fulfill. From today's perspective, we could also do full house,” said Sölden's slope manager and Corona officer Isidor Grüner on Friday the APA – Austria Presse Agency.

Due to the ÖSV requirements, at the start of the World Cup season in alpine skiing, for the time being, only 5,000 tickets per race day will be issued. “Then we'll see what happens. We can add more at any time, but maybe it's enough anyway,” said Grüner. 5,000 tickets seem to make sense in several ways. On the one hand, this would leave enough space and leeway for the spectators in the stadium. “With 5,000 we are also out of the red, everything above is a plus,” said Grüner.

Advance booking online

What is new is that tickets can only be ordered online in advance and must be personalized. In Sölden 3G, checks are carried out in several stations in the village itself before the ascent to the Rettenbach glacier. , so Grüner.

The Hahnenkamm races in Kitzbühel also had to do without fans last January. In addition, they dealt with the “Jochberg virus” in advance and therefore had to hand over the slaloms to Flachau. How many fans there will be this time is still open, because the races will only take place in more than three and a half months.

“Of course we plan with spectators,” confirmed KSC President Michael Huber. How many remains to be seen. “In this regard, we are only passengers, we do not have the handlebars in our hands.”
