To avoid impulse purchases in everyday life, you can use a few psychological tricks and save a lot of money.
Saving money is difficult for many people. In addition to rent, car or cell phone costs, you rarely want to do without something in your free time. And before you know it, at the end of the month the money is gone again.
But if, for example, your washing machine breaks or your car needs a repair, a nest egg makes sense. There are therefore many simple tips that you can apply in everyday life.
The € 5 trick is particularly popular and simple: every time you have a € 5 note in your wallet, you put it aside. The individual five euros usually don't hurt and you hardly notice in everyday life that they are missing. Every month a lot of cash accumulates in your money box.
With the one euro challenge you can save exactly 465 euros in 30 days. You can find out exactly how the system works here! And there are numerous other psychological tricks that can help you to spend money unnecessarily in everyday life.
Especially when shopping, the feeling of happiness is great after indulging in something. With the 10-second rule, however, you can easily avoid impulse buying. Trent Hamm presented this trick in his book “365 Ways To Live Cheap” (in German “365 Ways To Live Cheap”).
Before making any purchase, he advises holding the item in your hands for at least ten seconds and asking yourself whether you really need it. In most cases, the answer is negative and unnecessary or perhaps overpriced purchases are avoided.
For larger and more expensive purchases, such as a piece of furniture or a smartphone, you should take up to 30 days. If after a month you still need it, buy it and feel good about it. However, you will often find that the wish wasn't so important after all.
You can also save a lot of euros with the “foreign test”. While shopping, you imagine that someone is presenting the object of desire to you in one hand and the monetary value in cash in the other hand. If you have a tendency towards money, don't buy the item.
It is also advisable to pay in cash when shopping instead of by credit card. So you keep track of your expenses.
