In the world's driest desert, the Atacama Desert in northern Chile, a rare sight can be seen.
The Atacama Desert is located in northern Chile and is considered the driest place on our planet. And then suddenly on June 26 it was covered with snow.
France 24 writes about this.
“Incredible! The Atacama Desert, the driest desert in the world, is covered in snow,” wrote the ALMA observatory.
The researchers noted that on the neighboring plateau of Chajnanator, where the observatory's telescope is also located, snow is a common occurrence. But on the Atacama itself, there has been no snow for 10 years.
Climatologists emphasize that it is too early to link this unusual phenomenon to climate change in the world, but they also note that snow in the Atacama Desert may likely become a frequent occurrence in the coming years.
