The White House administration acknowledged that five employees were fired for using marijuana. Young people honestly wrote about their old sins in the questionnaires, since they were promised to close their eyes to it.
Earlier, the Biden administration said that employees who in the past smoked marijuana and lived in states where its use is permitted by law will not be fired.
This was reported by the press secretary of the US President Jen Psaki:
“We announced a few weeks ago that the White House is working with security services to update the policy so that past marijuana use does not automatically lead to employee suspension from the White House.
Despite this statement, five people were suspended from work precisely because of the use of cannabis.
When applying for a job in the White House, candidates fill out questionnaires, which, among other things, include a question about the use of marijuana in the past. In the future, the veracity of the answers is checked by the FBI officers by interviewing relatives and friends. The slightest discrepancy between personal data and reality leads to a refusal.
In the United States, marijuana is legalized in a number of states, in some of them all people over the age of 21 can smoke weed, in some of them it can be purchased and used for medical reasons (for example, for cancer, sleep disturbance, or post-traumatic stress disorder).
According to polls, the majority of US residents are in favor of full legalization of marijuana.
