Smartphones: Chinese provider Xiaomi benefits from problems with Huawei

According to Canalys' market watchers, Xiaomi became the world's third largest smartphone seller in the third quarter.

The Chinese smartphone provider Xiaomi is profiting from the problems of its larger rival Huawei. Sales climbed 34 percent to 72.1 billion yuan (around 9.2 billion euros) in the third quarter, Xiaomi announced. The profit increased by almost 20 percent. Xiaomi has recently expanded its market share in the People's Republic and Europe, while Huawei is struggling with the tougher US sanctions.

According to Canalys' market watchers, Xiaomi became the third largest smartphone seller in the world in the third quarter – behind Samsung Electronics and Huawei.
