China drew attention to the prerequisites for the shortage of smartphones. It is reported by the local edition ITHome.
The head of Xiaomi Lu Weibing announced a strong shortage of microchips. According to him, the processors necessary to create smartphones are not available, which slows down the production of gadgets. An unnamed Realme spokesperson contacted by reporters confirmed problems with components for phones. A source at the company noted that stocks of Qualcomm's core chips are nearly out of stock.
According to reports from insiders linked to the smartphone production chain, in some cases, delays in the supply of Qualcomm microprocessors reach 30 weeks. In some cases, shipments of CSR Bluetooth audio chips are delayed for up to 33 weeks. In this regard, experts predict a shortage of smartphones in the market.
Analysts from Taiwan noted that the component shortage could last until the end of 2021 and affect the next. The shortage of processors is facilitated by the increase in production and the gradual achievement of pre-pandemic rates. Leading Chinese companies – Huawei, Oppo, vivo and OnePlus – are increasing the number of smartphones in their lineup.
At the same time, analysts believe that the shortage may not affect all phone manufacturers or not all device models. However, global shipments of the device will still be reduced by the end of the year.
In early February, Bloomberg analysts predicted a new shortage in the market for next-generation consoles. The lack of components for the production of set-top boxes is due to the fact that the companies producing them do not have time to fulfill customer orders in full.
