Russian spies in Slovenia transmitted orders from Moscow and delivered cash to Russian “sleeper agents” throughout Europe.
A Ljubljana court in Slovenia has convicted a married couple from Russia of espionage. Each of the spouses received up to 19 months in prison. They were also ordered to leave the country after serving their sentences and were banned from returning to Slovenia for five years.
This is reported by the Associated Press.
The couple, who settled in Slovenia in 2017 under the false names of Ludwig Gish and Maria Rosa Mayer Munoz, were actually Artem Viktorovich Dultsev and Anna Valeryevna Dultseva. The husband ran an IT company, and the wife owned an online art gallery.
According to media reports, the couple used Ljubljana as a base for trips to neighboring NATO and EU countries, as well as for transmitting orders from Moscow and delivering cash to Russian “sleeper agents.”
They were arrested in 2022 and are suspected of being operatives of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service.
The couple has two children who attend an international school in Ljubljana. The trial was held behind closed doors.
Recall that Russia is increasingly resorting to blackmail and financial incentives to hire Germans for espionage. This is happening against the backdrop of the expulsion of about 600 Russian diplomats from Europe.
