Slovaks sent requests to participate in the war on the side of Ukraine – the president responded

Peter Pellegrini received requests from Slovak citizens in June 2024.

Slovak President Peter Pellegrini has not granted any of the four requests from Slovak citizens for permission to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

TASR reports this with reference to the office of the President of Slovakia.

Without the consent of the head of state, this is considered a criminal offense and entails imprisonment.

Several approvals of Slovak applications were previously provided by the former President of the Slovak state Zuzana Čaputová, who was in office during the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Meanwhile, Pellegrini supports the position of current Prime Minister Robert Fico on stopping arms supplies to Ukraine from the state reserve, although in the past he supported military aid to Kiev.

After election as president in April of this year, he said that supporting a military conflict that has produced no results in two years is a tragedy.

Recall that Slovakia will join the “peace initiative” of China and Brazil. Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico made a statement about the war in Ukraine.
