Slovakia has decided to introduce temporary controls on the border with Hungary due to the increase in the number of illegalmigrants.
The Prime Minister of Slovakia criticized the strengthening of controls introduced neighbors, and said that a decision to strengthen the protection of the external borders of the European Union would be the best solution, reports Reuters.
According to government data, the number of migrants entering Slovakia is mainly from Middle East and Afghanistan, has increased elevenfold this year to almost 40,000.
In September alone, illegal migration to the small central European country was as high as in all of 2022.
< p>Checks of Slovakia at the border with Hungary will begin on Thursday and will last 10 days.
The Czech Republic, Poland and Austria began temporary controls on Wednesday. Last week Germany introduced new controls with Poland and the Czech Republic. They are all part of the wider Schengen open border and visa-free zone.
The Polish Border Guard said that crossing will only be possible in certain areas for cars, trains and pedestrians.
