Slovak Foreign Minister Ivan Korchok, who is part of the government delegation to the United States, called a natural step to strengthen defense cooperation “with the main guarantor of our security, especially in conditions of growing uncertainty and geopolitical tensions.”

“In addition, it should be borne in mind that we are doing this as the last country on the eastern border of the EU and NATO,” Korchok said.

The agreement will allow the US Army to use the infrastructure of two military airports in Slovakia or other agreed facilities and premises. The agreement must be approved by the Slovak parliament, and then ratified by the country’s president Zuzana Chaputova.
