The situation on the labor market eased a little after the first steps in February. 405,714 people are currently registered as unemployed with the AMS, which is a decrease of 12,960 people compared to the previous week.
Furthermore, 73,938 people are in training courses, which is an increase of 1,886 over the previous week. A total of 479,652 people are currently unemployed, as Minister of Labor Martin Kocher said at a press conference on Tuesday. There was also an increase in short-time work. There are currently 486,684 employees in this model. Last week there were 478,000 people.
Almost a year after the first lockdown, there is a slight trend towards relaxation in the job market, according to Kocher. When restaurants and hotels are open again, the labor market will improve more, he said.
The WIFO data on economic activity in the last week of February show a decline in economic output of 6.9 percent compared to the previous week. The National Bank is currently even assuming a value of minus four percent, said Finance Minister Blümel.
