MOSCOW, September 29. / TASS /. The Competence Center of the National Technology Initiative (NTI) based on the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology will participate in the development of international standards in the field of mobile networks as a member of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) consortium. This was reported to TASS on Wednesday by the press service of the NTI Platform.

3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) is an international association of developers of standards in the field of mobile networks. Its representatives are the authors of the communication standards GSM, LTE and others used today. The Skoltech-based NTI Competence Center is developing new technologies for wireless communication and the Internet of Things.

“On the recommendation of the European Telecommunication Standards Institute (ETSI), the center received a special status of an” Invited Participant “in the 3GPP consortium. Thanks to the special status, the specialists of the NTI Competence Center and Skoltech will have early access to the results of standardization of new versions of mobile communication protocols, and will also be able to discuss at the global level issues of using wireless technologies, “the press service of the NTI Platform told TASS.

Skoltech is already a member of the O-RAN Alliance and the Telecom Infra Project (TIP) – key international organizations involved in the development and promotion of OpenRAN standards.

“Our telecommunications industry has to develop practically from scratch. And the only way to close the gap with the leaders is to rely on international standards and global consortia. This is the only way to reduce the gap between the giants of the telecom market and small developers,” the representatives of the NTI Platform quote the words of the head of the center Dmitry Lakontsev.
