Ski World Cup kick-off in Sölden without the local hero

by alex

Fabio Gstrein from Ötztal missed the qualification for the home race, and slalom vice world champion Adrian Pertl is not in the Austrian team.

For Fabio Gstrein, the new season begins with a disappointment. The technology specialist from Sölden, who of all athletes has the shortest journey to the World Cup opener on the Rettenbachferner, missed the home race on October 24th. After the internal qualification runs, which took place on the World Cup slope on Friday, Gstrein does not appear in the ten-man ÖSV line-up for the giant slalom.

With Adrian Pertl there is another prominent absentee. The slalom vice world champion, who wanted to gain a foothold in giant slalom more and more this season, also failed in the internal qualification. The two vacant starting places went to Patrick Feurstein from Vorarlberg and Raphael Haaser from Tyrol. If double world champion Vincent Kriechmayr does not start in Sölden, Lukas Feurstein will move up.

There were also two starting places for the ÖSV women. Katharina Huber and Stephanie Resch prevailed in the internal qualification and complete the nine-man line-up.

The ÖSV sends these men and women into the race in Sölden.

Women:

Stephanie Brunner, Franziska Gritsch, Ricarda Haaser, Katharina Huber, Katharina Liensberger, Elisa Mörzinger, Stephanie Resch, Ramona Siebenhofer and Katharina Truppe.

Gentlemen: Stefan Brennsteiner, Manuel Feller, Patrick Feurstein, Raphael Haaser, Vincent Kriechmayr (or Lukas Feurstein), Maximilian Lahnsteiner, Matthias Mayer, Roland Leitinger, Dominik Raschner and Marco Schwarz.
