Six European countries called on Russia not to recognize the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics (DNR and LNR). The corresponding statement was presented by the Permanent Representative of France to the UN, Nicolas de Rivière, TASS reports.

France, Germany, Ireland, Estonia, Albania and Norway signed a document calling for the rejection of recognition of the self-proclaimed republics. “We warn that such a move would further violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and directly violate the spirit and letter of the Minsk agreements,” de Riviere said.

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that if Russia recognizes the DPR and LPR, this will violate the sovereignty of Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin could take such a step to raise rates.

The proposal of the State Duma to recognize the DPR and LPR was received on the afternoon of February 15: during the rating voting, the deputies decided to immediately apply to the President of Russia with a corresponding request. According to parliamentarians, there are about 800,000 Russian citizens in the Donbass, and Russia is “obliged under the Constitution” to provide them with assistance.
