Short-time work instead of layoffs at machine manufacturer Emco

Instead of 100, only twelve jobs are to be cut at the Salzburg company.

Emco in Hallein, Salzburg.

At the lathe and milling machine manufacturer Emco GmbH, based in Hallein, the announced reduction of up to 100 of the 400 employees is apparently off the table.

After negotiations with the works council and union, the company will now mainly focus on short-time work and cut only twelve jobs, the private employees' union (GPA) announced in a broadcast on Friday.

At the end of September it became known that the Supervisory Board wanted to reduce the workforce by 20 percent due to the Corona-related decline in sales. The maximum number given was 100 of the total of 400 jobs.

This would not only have had a massive impact on the employees, but also on Emco itself. Because if terminated employees were transferred to another job by the AMS, they would no longer be available to the machine manufacturer after the crisis, said GPA secretary Rudolf Blaha.

According to Works Council Chairman Baldur Eibl, there will be additional social security for the twelve employees affected.
