The shooting occurred in front of the Ihku nightclub, located in the center of the Finnish capital.
Helsinki police on Saturday, April 27, reported , which arrested True Finns MP Timo Warnanen, a suspect in the nightclub shooting. The incident, which is under investigation by police, occurred at 4 a.m. Friday at the Ihku nightclub in the center of the Finnish capital.
Yle writes about this.
Although police did not name Vornanen in their statement, the findings match previously known details of the case that appeared in Finnish media on April 26.
According to police, Warnanen had an argument with a group of nightclub patrons. After an argument inside the club, the men went outside, where Warnanen pulled out a small-caliber firearm, pointed the barrel of the gun at those gathered, and then fired into the ground. Police said they have CCTV footage of the incident.
Vornanen, a first-term MP from the city of Joensuu, worked in the police for more than 20 years before being elected to the legislature. The head of the Eastern Finland Police Department, Samppa Holopainen, said he could not confirm whether Vornanen returned his service weapon after leaving the police force.
The head of the True Finns party, Riikka Purra, said that the details revealed by the police are “extremely serious” and that the parliamentary faction and the party leadership will take “appropriate measures.” According to her, the deputy’s actions were even more serious, given his experience in law enforcement.
Chief Investigator Jukka Larkio said that since no one was injured in the shooting, the incident was classified as attempted aggravated assault and a crime with a firearm.
The police are not calling for Vornanen's arrest. Once the preliminary investigation is completed, he will likely be released.
Recall that in Kyiv, a conflict on the road escalated into shooting. The offender was detained, and the victim was taken to the hospital.
