Defense Minister and President of the Russian Geographical Society Sergei Shoigu, during a meeting of the organization's board of trustees, spoke about a curious incident in the recent expedition “Umka-2021”. He recalled that as part of these exercises, three nuclear submarines surfaced from under the ice at the same time. The places of their emergence were marked with small flags.
“A bear dug to one of these landmarks and walked around it for a long time. We were forced to drive him away, because the boat was supposed to float up from below, and the bear was just standing in this place. They are there, they feel free,” RIA quotes Shoigu News.
The minister noted that the submarine broke through the ice exactly where it was planned.
“This very pole was on the roof (of the deckhouse),” he noted.
Recall that the Umka-2021 expedition took place on March 20, 2021 in the Franz Josef Land archipelago, Alexandra Land Island and the adjacent water area covered with solid ice. According to the plan, three submarines simultaneously surfaced within a radius of only 300 meters.
