– The basis of the Russian-Belarusian strategic exercise Zapad-2021 was the development of new forms and methods of warfare, taking into account the peculiarities of modern local wars and armed conflicts. Some samples of weapons, including strike robots, were used for the first time in practice, – Sergei Shoigu said on Wednesday, summing up the results of the exercises.
The minister said that for the first time an airborne battalion on 30 modern BMD-4M was parachuted into 21 Il-76 MD aircraft at night in unfavorable weather conditions. And military topographers for the first time tested the capabilities of the unified software system “Kaleidoscope”.
“The system allows you to create a three-dimensional image of a virtual combat space, thereby assessing the situation more accurately and significantly reducing the time for decision-making by the command,” the head of the military department explained the appointment of the Kaleidoscope.

According to the head of the military department, at the same time, at the training grounds near Kaliningrad and Nizhny Novgorod, for the first time, strike robotic systems “Platform-M”, reconnaissance and fire support robots “Uran-9” and “Nerekhta” were used.
The head of the military department assured that the groups of troops of Russia and Belarus “reliably guarantee regional security.” For this, in particular, two training and combat centers are being built on the territory of Belarus for the joint training of specialists of the Air Force and air defense.
“During the exercise, the organization of combat duty in the Unified Regional Air Defense System of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus was checked,” Sergei Shoigu explained the purpose of the centers.
Recall that the exercises “West-2021”, which took place from 10 to 16 September, involved about 200 thousand people, including 2 thousand servicemen from the CSTO, SCO and other countries.
