Hurisa

The Vienna Marathon has a new winner: Derara Hurisa, who crossed the finish line first, was subsequently disqualified – his shoe was too high.

Bitter news for Derara Hurisa! The Ethiopian completed the 42.195 kilometers fastest on Sunday and needed 2:09:22 hours for the street circuit in Vienna. But the joy of the supposed victory did not last long.

After the race – as usual – the champion's shoe was put under the microscope. The rulers realized that the sole was about one centimeter too high. A sole thickness of a maximum of forty millimeters is permitted, with Hurisa it was fifty. Logical consequence: disqualification.

The victory at the 38th VCM was inherited by the Kenyan Leonard Langat, who originally crossed the finish line three seconds behind Hurisa.

The course record of Getu Feleke (Äth / 2:05:41 hours) from 2014 was not in danger either way.

Best Austrian: Martin Mistelbauer, the 14th overall. became (2:29:22 hours) and is therefore Austrian champion. Hans-Peter Innerhofer was 17th, Vinzenz Kumpusch 23rd.

Debutante wins

The women's race was decided by Kenyan Vibian Cheruiyot on her debut in 2:24:29 hours. Meseret Dinke (Äth) came second in front of her compatriot Gelete Burka.

Over the half-distance, victory went to an Austrian duo. Eva Wutti cheered for the women (1:16:14 hours), Andreas Stöckl for the men (1:12:07 hours.)
