A global warming of 1.5 degrees Celsius will be a disaster for some Pacific island states. The head of the research department of the Australian branch of Greenpeace Nicola Kazule told about it.
As the expert noted in a conversation with The Guardian newspaper, the countries of this region have been suffering from strong tides, powerful cyclones, droughts and salinization of groundwater for a long time. In addition, many islands are gradually sinking under water due to rising water levels in the oceans.
“This will make places like Kiribati, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands uninhabitable,” the expert said.
According to him, the trend will intensify as the planet warms up, and therefore ultimately they will have a sad end.
Earlier, experts from the British development study said that the African city of Lagos, the largest in Nigeria, may be threatened with extinction. The reason for this is the possible flooding of the city due to heavy rainfall.
