MOSCOW, July 8. / TASS /. Seven Russian universities are participating in an experiment to conduct exams in 2021 remotely using the Unified Biometric System (UBS), Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko said on Thursday.
“More than 200 students of RUDN University, Plekhanov University and a number of other universities participate in it. The guys have the opportunity to pass exams in online format, having passed identification through the EBS. Previously, the student had to have a confirmed account on the portal of public services and the data provided – image faces and voice – into the Unified Biometric System. It is important that this technology is used only at the request of the student and with his consent, “- quoted the words of Chernyshenko in the office of the Deputy Prime Minister.
It is specified that the experiment was organized by the Ministry of Digital Science and the Ministry of Education and Science. Universities participating in the experiment: Moscow State Technical University. N.E.Bauman, MIREA – Russian Technological University, National Research Technological University “MISiS”, Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography, State University of Management and Russian Economic University named after G.V. Plekhanov.
“Now it is in demand due to the peculiarities of the epidemiological situation, but in the future a new digital format for passing exams will be used by an increasing number of universities and will allow students from remote regions or those with disabilities not to attend universities to take exams,” Chernyshenko added.
The government decree providing for the use of distance learning technologies during intermediate certification in 2021-2022 was signed by the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin in March 2021. The EBS was launched at the initiative of the Ministry of Digital Industry, the Bank of Russia and PJSC Rostelecom as part of the implementation of the national program “Digital Economy of the Russian Federation”. The operator is PJSC Rostelecom.
