Armand Duplantis
The Swede Armand Duplantis has set a world record in pole vaulting. The correspondent of “Lenta.ru” informs about it.
At the stage of the “Diamond League” in Rome, the athlete jumped 6.15 meters – an inch higher than the previous record. Thus, Duplantis beat Sergey Bubka's 26-year-old achievement in open areas. In 1994, the Ukrainian jumped 6.14 meters.
In February 2020, Duplantis set a world indoor record (6.18 meters) at the Glasgow International Tournament. The 20-year-old Swede is the silver medalist of the 2019 World Championship, and he also has a gold medal at the 2018 European Championship.
Bubka is an Olympic champion and a six-time winner of the world championships as part of the national teams of the USSR and Ukraine. In 2013, he fought for the post of President of the International Olympic Committee, but lost the election to German Thomas Bach.
