Sergey Lavrov and Alexander Vucic
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic appreciated the refusal of members of the Presidium of Bosnia and Herzegovina Zeljko Komšić and Shefik Jaferovic to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. TASS reports his words.
According to Vucic, the refusal of the Bosnian authorities is a short-sighted act that offends the tradition of hospitality. “It's good to become a hero for the day, to catch up with passions, but what will you do tomorrow? Any conversation is better than running away from a meeting, ”he stated.
The Serbian leader also noted that Montenegro has decided to maintain sanctions against Russia. “They are probably better politicians than we are, we will not impose anti-Russian sanctions,” Vucic said. Serbia is proud to make decisions on its own, he added.
Jaferovich and Komshich refused to meet with Lavrov, which was to take place on the morning of December 15. They explained their decision by disagreeing with a number of statements by the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, including those regarding the Dayton Accords.
According to Jaferovic, at first he and Komšić intended to attend a meeting with the Russian minister in order to discuss in detail his views on the policy of Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, they later came to the conclusion that the refusal would be a “stronger signal” for Russia.
