Serbian Patriarch Irenaeus is now in serious condition, doctors are fighting for his life, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said after the anti-terrorist exercises of the police special forces in Belgrade.
“Patriarch Irenaeus is in a difficult situation and, thank God, is alive,” the Serbian newspaper Novosti reports.
Vucic noted that earlier the patriarch was intubated, and now doctors are fighting for his life.
Earlier, the website of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SOC) reported that on the morning of November 19, the condition of the 90-year-old patriarch worsened. The Serbian newspaper BN reported on the death of Irenaeus, but the SOC denied this information.
Irenaeus was hospitalized with coronavirus at the Karaburma military hospital in Belgrade on 4 November.
