September 2021 will be the coldest since the beginning of the XXI century – Izvestia
The head of the forecast center “Meteo” Alexander Shuvalov said that September 2021 could be the coldest year since the beginning of the XXI century, the Izvestia newspaper writes.
According to the forecaster, taking into account the past cold week and the next few days of the same September this year in the European part of Russia may become the coldest in the XXI century.
“Freezing anomalous temperatures have captured vast areas: from Lake Baikal to the Atlantic. The influx of cold – a polar vortex that has shifted towards the Eastern Hemisphere – is very strong and extremely long, and, therefore, it will be cold in the next 4-5 days. This is the first time this situation has occurred in the past six months, ”he said.
According to the forecast of meteorologists, in the coming days a strong northeast wind is expected in the European part of Russia, the daytime temperature will be about 5-8 degrees, and with such a wind it will be felt as 0-2 degrees.
Earlier, the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of the Russian Federation, Roman Vilfand, said that cold and rainy weather will set in the central part of European Russia by the end of this working week.
Nikolai Tereshonok, head of the meteorology and climate department at the Central UGMS Federal State Budgetary Institution, warned that winter this year in Russia will be frosty.
The climatologist noted that this year anticyclones were delayed in the country. According to him, the current cold snap is due to the influence of the Arctic anticyclone.
