Senate Republican Leader Says It's Impossible to Accept Aid to Ukraine by Christmas

< p>The senator called on President Joe Biden to be more actively involved in the negotiations.

The leader of the Republicans in the US Senate, Mitch McConnell, said that he would pass the law providing military aid to Ukraine before Christmas will be “practically impossible” – even if the two parties reach a provisional agreement in the coming days.

This is reported by Reuters, writes “EP”.

“All I said is that it is 'practically impossible' (aid to Ukraine – Ed.), even if we reach an agreement – work it out, get it through the Senate, get it through the House of Representatives by Christmas” , McConnell said.

The senator also called on President Joe Biden to more actively participate in the negotiations, which, in his opinion, have reached a dead end. According to McConnell, there will be no agreement “until Joe Biden and the Republicans agree.”

Specifically, he noted that “House Speaker Mike Johnson has told several people that the House of Representatives is leaving town at the end of this week.”

“We all know that he (Biden – Ed.) is the only one who can sign the bill. Without him, the operation is impossible,” McConnell said.

It should be noted that the House of Representatives and the Senate will go into Christmas recess on Thursday, December 14th. Both houses are scheduled to meet again during the second week of January 2024.

As reported, US President Joe Biden announced a new $200 million military aid package to Ukraine. The White House leader also said that if Congress does not pass an aid package for Ukraine and Israel, it will give Russian President Vladimir Putin his “biggest Christmas gift.”
