Schoolchildren and students from six regions of the country went to a unique place on the planet to conduct their own research and make sure of the importance of preserving such natural areas. The event is timed to coincide with the Year of Science and Technology.
The Mendeleev ecological expedition included schoolchildren, students and teachers of universities, members of the scientific and educational consortium “Advanced EcoTechnologies”, from the Kirov, Saratov, Kurgan, Nizhny Novgorod, Irkutsk regions and the Udmurt Republic. The Mendeleev Ecological Expedition is an educational project organized at the initiative of the Federal Ecological Operator (part of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom) to popularize ecological thinking among students and schoolchildren, provide vocational guidance to schoolchildren who are interested in studying chemistry and ecology, and build experience in research activities.
It is extremely important to work aimed at enhancing environmental culture and shaping young people to understand the value and interconnection of all elements of the ecosystem, ”said Andrei Lebedev, director of the direction for the implementation of state and sectoral programs in the field of ecology of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom.
Responsible for the creation of an integrated system for handling waste of I and II classes and eliminating large objects of accumulated environmental damage as part of the national project “Ecology” relationship to resources. In addition, on the initiative of the FEO, the Mendeleev Classes program was launched, which solves the problem of early profiling of schoolchildren and the formation of human resources for the emerging industry for the management of production and consumption waste.
The Mendeleev ecological expedition began with the writing of the All-Russian ecological dictation “EcoTolk”. Within the walls of the RCTU them. DI. Mendeleev, the guys answered the tricky, but awakening interest in biology, chemistry, history, questions from representatives of the State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatom”, the Federal Environmental Operator, the Russian University of Chemical Technology. DI. Mendeleev, the Association of Citizens and Organizations to Promote the Development of Environmental Education and Enlightenment “EcoTolk”, the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, well-known public figures.
On the same day, the members of the Mendeleev ecological expedition went to the Irkutsk region to their main goal. To participate, the guys prepared their projects on environmental issues. The authors of the best projects were included in the expedition.
“When I found out that the winners of the Mendeleev Classes environmental competition are being awarded a trip to Lake Baikal, this became an additional incentive to participate in it and win,” says the ninth-grader Sofya Chesnokova from the Mikhailovsky village of the Saratov region. – I really wanted to see such beauty with my own eyes! Actually, I really like chemistry. And I hope that this direction will become my profession.
Sophia took first place with the project “Research of drinking and household water”. The girl, under the guidance of the curator Adelia Kocheneva, worked on the study for a year, including vacations. She was interested, carried away.
The Mendeleev Classes project is aimed at in-depth study of chemistry and mathematics and opens up promising professions for children – industrial ecologist, chemist, technologist and others.
The organization of the expedition is carried out with the joint activities of the Federal Environmental Operator, the network of Information Centers for Atomic Energy, the Irkutsk Regional Branch of the All-Russian Society for the Conservation of Nature, the Scientific and Educational Consortium “Advanced EcoTechnologies”.
During the expedition, schoolchildren and students get acquainted with the unique landscapes of Lake Baikal, under the guidance of scientists, they conduct research on water, flora and fauna, study the anthropogenic impact on the environment using the example of the Baikal Pulp and Paper Mill.
Among the tasks of the expedition to show the guys what riches our nature has, and what sad consequences a frivolous attitude towards them can lead to.
