“Secret diplomacy”: Saakashvili spoke about four secret meetings with Lukashenka

The meetings took place during the presidency of Miho.

Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, who was detained in Tbilisi, secretly met Alexander Lukashenko four times in London during his presidency.

Saakashvili stated this during a court session, reports “Georgia Online”.

“I am talking about this for the first time. It was secret diplomacy. The fact that Lukashenka has not yet recognized South Ossetia and Abkhazia is the result of my trips to London,” he said.

By the way, in 2019, Lukashenka said that he was ready, following the example of Moscow, to recognize the independence of Abkhazia. However, he stopped, because such a step would entail the imposition of sanctions against Belarus. According to him, the Russian authorities were not ready to compensate for the damage from these sanctions.

Recall that a few days ago, Lukashenko said: he can recognize South Ossetia and Abkhazia as independent states, and Crimea as part of Russia, “if he understands,” and Russian President Vladimir Putin “says that it is necessary.”

In turn, the Kremlin noted that they see no need to send signals to Minsk about the need to recognize the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, as well as Crimea as a region of Russia.
