Scotland to pass law on free pads and tampons

by alex

Scotland is gearing up to be the first country with free pads and tampons. The corresponding law will be considered today in the local parliament, The Independent notes.

We are talking about the final discussion of the bill, which is called “Bill of goods for menstruation.” According to him, the government is obliged to provide free access to hygiene products for everyone who needs them. Initially, officials opposed this initiative, but eventually adopted it in the first reading.

The preliminary costs of the project will cost £ 9.7 million (almost US $ 13 million). Some MPs fear that the costs will be much higher than expected, but others believe that such a law will be “breakthrough”.

“This law ensures that no one is left without basic necessities,” said Labor MP Monica Lennon.

If the law goes into effect, Scotland will become the first country in the world where women can receive tampons and pads for free.

On November 17, Thai authorities drafted a bill to allow abortion in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. Parliament is expected to pass the new law approved by the cabinet minister by February 2021.
