Scientists will study the possibility of combining vaccines Moderna and Novavax

Moscow. 14th of April. INTERFAX.RU – Great Britain has expanded research aimed at determining the possibility of combining vaccination with various drugs against COVID-19 by including the drugs Moderna and Novavax in experiments, said Matthew Snape, professor at the University of Oxford.

He noted that the idea “is to investigate whether the multiple available COVID-19 vaccines can be used more flexibly.”

The research process began in February and is aimed at examining whether the administration of the first and second doses of different vaccines produces the same immune response as when vaccinating with two doses of the same drug.

The UK and many other countries in Europe are currently using the AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines in nationwide immunization campaigns against the coronavirus pandemic. At the same time, against the background of reports of cases of thrombosis after vaccination with the drug AstraZeneca, the governments of some countries – including France and Germany – have introduced age restrictions on its use.

Results from initial trials of a combination of vaccines, which used only AstraZeneca and Pfizer, are expected in April or May, while results from the second phase are due in July, media noted.
